Facebook ‘PLACES’ local businesses in new perspective
The launch of Facebook’s new ‘Places’ feature has opened up a whole new potential for local viral marketing for any sized business. This new application allows businesses to market to customers in their shop front’s vicinity whilst simultaneously creating great viral talk amongst those people’s friends and extending your business’s reach to new customers.
How does it work?
Facebook’s iPhone application enables users to ‘check-in’ to a certain location, or, if a location is not available, to make one up. An activity feed allows the user’s friends to see where they are and comment on those feeds. A separate ‘People Here Now’ section allows users to see others
checked-in at the same place as the user, which, according to Facebook, allows them to meet people who may share the same interests.

Facebook Places works in two ways for your business as i) it creates a presence for your business’s physical store locations and ii) acts as a virtual hub for your customers.
In the US, some businesses offer discounts to customers who regularly check-in through Facebook Places. Why not be one of the first in Australia to encourage your customers to check-in and create excitement and new interest for your brand!
